Freezing your credit is a simple yet effective way to protect yourself from identity theft and unauthorized access to your credit. When you freeze your credit, no one—including you—can open new credit accounts using your personal information until you unfreeze it. This step ensures that even if your data is compromised, it cannot be used to open new credit accounts without your permission.

To freeze your credit, you need to contact each of the three major credit bureaus—Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion—individually. You'll create an account or log in, follow their prompts, and place a freeze on your credit report.

When you're ready to unfreeze your credit—whether temporarily or permanently—simply log back into the credit bureaus' websites, and choose the option to lift the freeze. You can unfreeze your credit for a specific period of time or until you decide to freeze it again. The process is quick, easy, and provides an added layer of security for your financial well-being.
